ABOUT BRUCE TORRIE
Bruce Torrie is a lawyer, health and environmental policy analyst, and science documentary producer. After receiving his education at the University of Victoria and Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, he practiced law as principal of Torrie & Associates, a West End Vancouver law firm, from 1981 to 1992. Bruce was involved in national and international anti-nuclear work from 1985 - 1990 and served as national vice president of Lawyers for Social Responsibility.
Since 1990, Bruce has focused on global environmental issues - in particular, pollution, global climate change and ozone depletion and their impacts on our planet. Bruce has organized numerous National and International Conferences and has produced over 100 hours of television documentaries on science, environmental technologies, and law. He was the founding chair of the Atmosphere Caucus of the Canadian Environmental Network (1990 - 2000) and acted as legal advisor to the B. C. Environmental Network from 1990 - 2000. Bruce attended the meetings of the parties to the Climate Change Convention in Berlin in March 1995 and Geneva in October 1995. He serves on the boards of many environmental groups and foundations. His major role since 1998 has been serving as Executive Director of the Skies Above Canada Foundation producing the Climates of Change Congress in Victoria in March, 2000, bringing together the world's top scientists and energy innovations to chart a course to a sustainable future. The conference was covered by 14 network camera crews and broadcast across Canada and around the world.
In 1987 he received an award from the Human Rights Coalition for his work to protect the environment. He is also an organic farmer and Shitake mushroom grower and maintaines a property on the shores of Florence Lake in the hills west of Victoria, B.C.
